Steroid injection procedure

Ultrasound-Guided Steroid Injections

At Rivercity Ultrasound, we can provide ultrasound-guided steroid injections for patients who have been referred by their healthcare provider. These procedures are performed by an orthopaedic specialist who comes onsite once a week. He is assisted by our skilled sonographer, to ensure the injection is delivered accurately to the area requiring treatment.

Steroid injections, also known as cortisone, are commonly used to help reduce inflammation and relieve pain. They can be an effective treatment for a range of conditions, including bursitis, tennis elbow, arthritis-related inflammation, as well as some nerve conditions.

Using ultrasound guidance, the orthopaedic specialist will inject local anaesthetic and the steroid medication precisely where it is needed, which can improve the effectiveness of the treatment. Many people experience significant relief from pain, particularly when the injection is combined with the treatment plan recommended by their healthcare provider.

Funding may be available through ACC or Southern Cross Health Insurance, or you are welcome to book as a private patient. A referral from your healthcare provider is required before we can perform the procedure.

Our steroid injection clinics are generally run every Tuesday afternoon.
